Lost into the nature of the Conero Park, Camerano is famous for its caves, that hide underground another charming "city".
Camerano is the home of the famous painter Carlo Maratta: a bust in the central Piazza Roma is dedicated to him, from this square our itinerary begins. On this square there are the late nineteenth-century theater and the Manciforte palace, with the beautiful park. From the square going ahead in via S. Apollinare or in via S. Francesco, you can climb quickly to S. Francesco church, a beautiful church preceded by a double staircase, open only during certain periods of the year. Returning back to piazza Roma, going down in via Maratta, where you can find respectively the tourist office, Saint Faustina church (which contains a painting of Maratta school and a medallion of the daughter of the famous painter) and just beyond the parish , with modern ceramic works and a painting of the young Maratta.
A special mention goes to the underground urban fabric of the city: underground the old town center, in fact, begins an intricate network of caves open to visitors, so that the inhabitants of Camerano are used to say "there are more people below than above."
The first weekend of September, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, all Camerano people and their neighbours make a toasts with the wine Rosso Conero: the ideal combination of the classic party that exalts the grapes and the wine and a pleasant gathering of generations linked to shows, typicalities and good food.
